Electrical Insight - Conduit Bodies

Some of you may know what some of the materials, products, or tools we are posting are, and others of you may have never seen or used something like this before. We're going to post some behind the scene pictures of material, products, or tools which we use on your projects, both residential and commercial, so you have a little inside scoop and can impress our Spectrum Electrical Services, Inc. electrician next time they stop by!

One of the most versatile components of an electrical raceway system is the conduit body. The National Electrical Code defines a conduit body as “A separate portion of a conduit or tubing system that provides access through a removable cover(s) to the interior of the system at a junction of two or more sections of the system or at a terminal point of the system.”

As stated conduit bodies come in many shapes and sizes, but most typically you would see our electricians using one similar to those pictures below (varies when considering hazardous or wet locations). The use of these conduit bodies allows electricians to access wire junctions for servicing purposes without disturbing the whole system.
